pads

Congregational UCC has served as a Thursday night PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) site since October 1989. Working together with Protestant, Catholic and Jewish congregations and individuals from our community between October and May, we shelter and provide meals for many homeless persons. PADS is part of the larger northwest suburban "Journeys, The Road Home" effort.

community labyrinth

The members of Congregational United Church of Christ built a labyrinth in 2012 with the hopes of creating a sacred meditative space for the surrounding community. The labyrinth is located behind the church, east of the parking lot. (It can be a bit difficult to see from the parking lot as it is made of paver bricks laid into the grass, which makes the labyrinth wheelchair accessible and low maintenance.)  There is a welcome sign placed near the entrance to the labyrinth and informational brochures are available in the box below the sign.

The labyrinth is always open to the public. In addition, we offer opportunities for group walks, candlelight walks and other special programs. If you are new to labyrinths and would like more information about walking labyrinths, we have volunteers that are happy to talk with you. Please call the church office at 847-392-6550. If you would like to be on our email list for upcoming labyrinth events, please send that request to: office@congucc.org

We are so happy that you found us and hope that our labyrinth will be a welcoming place of peace for you.

other ways we HELP our community

  • COMMUNITY GARDEN
Each spring, one acre of land behind our parking lot is divided into plots available to any interested gardeners in the community. One special plot, the Giving Garden, grows vegetables for local food pantries.
  • MEALS ON WHEELS
For over 25 years, our congregation has assisted Wheeling Township by delivering Meals on Wheels during the month of July.
  • CHOIR CONCERTS
Our choir shares their amazing gift of song during worship from September through June. Participation in choir is open to all enthusiastic youth and adults. Several times a year, under the direction of our choir director, our choir performs special concerts, either alone or with other musical groups in the area. Concerts (and all other church events) are always free, and all are welcome.
